Anna Emmerling, Esq.
Attorney Anna Emmerling is proud to be joining Attorney Kathleen Gomez as a contract attorney. A Wisconsin native, Anna’s legal career began in the fall of 2011 as a legal assistant for a criminal defense and immigration attorney. She quickly realized that law was her true passion—and that the best part of law was working directly with the firm’s clients.
A compassionate and zealous advocate, Anna is driven to help people whose lives have been interrupted by injustice. Fighting for those who cannot fight themselves is at the core of her practice; she aims to help fix injustice, without ever losing sight of the person at the core of a case. She strives to achieve the best outcomes possible for her clients—a goal she accomplishes by working with each client to determine the best course of action for their particular case.
Everyone has a story, and this truth is at the core of Anna’s practice. As such, she follows a client-centered approach that allows her to get to know each client as an individual, not a case number. This is crucial for establishing trust and providing the help clients need—whether to receive a fair trial, or simply to feel they’re represented by someone who listens and will fight for them. As a client, we recognize YOU are the expert in the facts of your case. Let us be your legal experts.
In the spring of 2016, Anna graduated magna cum laude from Mitchell|Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, adding law to a background in political science, psychology, and social services. At Mitchell|Hamline, she was privileged to practice as a student attorney with the immigration law clinic, in addition to clerking at the Hennepin County Public Defender’s office. She also spent a year and a half clerking for a judge in Hennepin County. Now, alongside Kathleen Gomez, she looks forward to returning to her roots and fighting for her clients.
Based in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Anna practices in Becker, Hubbard, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Norman, Clay, Wadena, and Otter Tail counties. She is also willing to appear in any of Minnesota’s other counties that allow her to appear virtually. Anna’s primary area of practice is criminal law, but she is currently expanding her practice areas to include family cases, estate litigation and planning, restraining orders, and forfeitures.
In her spare time, Anna enjoys reading, baking, doing arts and crafts, and exploring Minnesota’s fantastic state parks with her dog, Wyatt. She can often be found kayaking on Lake Michigan or boating on the area’s lakes in the summer.
